Artist Profile:

Nosipho Duma is a visual artist born and raised in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. She finished matric in 2023.

She is the daughter of well known South African artist Sibusiso Duma, but only started drawing in 2020 during COVID lockdown. Her father then taught her to paint and she took it forward.

Her work is about the issues that teenagers face as they are growing such as drugs, alcohol and especially teenage pregnancy as it’s a huge problem in SA.

Nosipho states that “The biggest issue that young women face is teenage pregnancy. This then affects them by losing their dignity, people not respecting them, increasing poverty due to children that are parentless and crime.”

She hopes that by doing this work it can bring awareness among young people and decrease the huge number of these issues.
