Artist of the Month April 2025 – James Ndlela

Meet the creative mind behind the wirework bottles!

James Ndlela, a 73-year-old craftsman from Nkandla, now residing in Ntuzuma, has been transforming ordinary bottles into stunning works of art since 2015. His journey into wire weaving and beadwork showcases his remarkable skill and dedication to the craft.

Creating these bottles is time-consuming and intricate, with specific techniques and materials passed down through generations. James learnt the techniques from his brother-in-law.

Each bottle he decorates is a testament to his creativity and passion. He hopes to expand his work by beading traditional Zulu beer pots, further celebrating and preserving his cultural heritage.
