Functional traditional Zulu beer pots are made from fine clay for the purpose of serving and drinking sorghum-based beer. The pots are traditionally produced by women. This hardwire ukhamba (beer pot) is decorative and cannot be used to hold beer.

Busisiwe Mayise is a self-taught weaver, she learnt the skill on her own. She started making the baskets in 1997 to take care of her family. She started selling in Town(market) and her first basket was only R40.

She makes the most beautiful shallow baskets and both pictorial and geometric designs. And we just love this ukhamba (beer pot).

She loves her work and it is her only source of income. She has managed to build a house with just making the baskets and is extremely proud of this achievement. She takes care of her grandkids with the income she gets from making the baskets.

Busisiwe always gives her best so her art precisely and beautifully crafted. She never wants to disappoint her customers and the people who gave her an opportunity to showcase her work.
